A large fire broke out today at a warehouse of the PX Mart supermarket chain in Taichung, Taiwan, killing nine people and injuring seven others, local media reported.

Construction work was being carried out in the building when, under unspecified circumstances at the time, a fire broke out and spread rapidly.
Strong forces of the Fire Department rushed to the spot with more than 100 men and ladder trucks. During the operation to extinguish the fire, 19 people were freed, of which five were hospitalized with burns.
Authorities are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, as well as whether criminal responsibilities may arise for non-compliance with the prescribed safety regulations during the work carried out in the building.
