The New Zealand government will provide further humanitarian aid worth New Zealand $ 4 million (US $ 2.7 million) to Ukraine, Foreign Minister Nana Mahuta said.
“We are appalled by the blatant human rights abuses in Ukraine, especially Russia’s attacks on humanitarian corridors and the targeting of civilians,” she said.
She clarified that the amount will be added to the $ 2 million already provided and that she will help people on the battlefield, while her government will continue to study ways to help the Ukrainians.
The New Zealand government has also announced that it will offer asylum to about 4,000 Ukrainians.
“We call on Russia to ensure the safe passage of civilians as a matter of urgency so that they can be removed from the battlefield and to take all possible measures to protect civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law. “Russian forces must stop the attacks on civilians and political infrastructure and stop the attacks that are being carried out without any discrimination and in a disproportionate way,” she said.
The head of New Zealand diplomacy added that Russia must guarantee the “security” of humanitarian organizations and allow them access to communities in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
