The two Ukrainian generals who have shouldered the coordination fortification of Kiev They told a BBC correspondent that the morphology of the city’s soil favors its attempt to defend itself against the Russian invader.
Generals Andrei Krychenko and Sergei Knyazev stressed that they are trying hard to keep the Russian artillery out of sufficient range, although they acknowledge that the Ukrainian capital is vulnerable to missile strikes.
However, they noted that the large area of the city and the fact that both the Dnieper and its tributaries cross it favor the fortification. “Rivers, bridges are located at the entrances of the city. “Our troops are building defenses and fortifications,” the generals said.
“There are many small rivers flowing around the Dnieper around the city and there are many swamps, which means that the ground is not suitable for large-scale military movements,” they added.
General Krychenko, who is also Kiev’s deputy mayor, added to Kiev’s advantages that it is an industrial city.
As he explains, handicrafts and factories have modified the production line and now make concrete blocks for fortifications, sandbags and anti-tank barriers.
The generals also assessed that the large Russian convoy northwest of the capital, which has now been dispersed, after its advance was first prevented, “no longer poses a threat.”
