The woman who appeared during the Kremlin-affiliated TV bulletin Pervy Kanal (1st Channel) behind the TV presenter, holding a placard that read “No to War. Do not believe the propaganda. “Here, they are lying to you”, he risks up to 15 years in prison.

“I assume that my client Marina Ovsyannikova is threatened with criminal rather than administrative prosecution under the new law which provides for imprisonment for up to 15 years,” said Daniel Berman’s lawyer.

“There is a strong possibility that the authorities will turn her into an example to silence other protesters,” he said, adding that he had not been able to meet with Marina Ovsianikova and did not know exactly where she was being held.

Russian authorities have not clarified the charges against 40-year-old Marina Ovsyannikova, who hails from Odessa and worked for the Russian television network.

The scene that unfolded yesterday during the TV bulletin is unprecedented in a country where information is under draconian control, which has been further strengthened after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In the very first days of the invasion, the Russian authorities adopted a law punishing the publication of “information defamatory of the Russian army” with up to 15 years in prison.

According to her lawyer, Marina Ovsianikova, a mother of two, will be prosecuted under this law.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov had previously called Marina Ovsyannikova’s act “hooliganism”, while the Pervy Kanal reported that an internal investigation into the “incident” was under way.

In a video she wrote before the protest, Marina Ovsyannikova explained that her father was Ukrainian, her mother Russian and that she could not stand the spread of lies that turned Russians into zombies.

She has since received tens of thousands of support messages on her Facebook account.

It is noted that after entering the studio of Channel One with a placard, the Russian journalist Marina Ovsyannikova was taken to the police station. This is reported by sources from the media and its environment.

However, no further details have been released on her whereabouts or what her fate will be.

At the same time, the Kremlin described its action as “hooliganism”, to “invade” live and to protest against the war in Ukraine.

Marina Ovsyannikova stood behind the news presenter with her placard and shouted anti-war slogans.

“About this woman, this is hooliganism,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov told reporters, praising the network for its quality, objective and timely programming.

In accordance with BBCit is alleged that the woman is in custody by the authorities.

It is also reported that her lawyer allegedly searched for her at all police stations near the TV station’s studios, but was unable to locate her.

On the other hand, a state news agency reported this morning that a preliminary procedure has already been initiated against her.
