Air Canada flight engulfed in flames after forced to make emergency landing at its international airport Halifax Stanfieldas it experienced a malfunction with its landing gear on Saturday night. The news comes after a plane crash in South Korea that killed at least 167 people as the wheels failed to deploy during an emergency landing.

According to Canadian media, the flight 2259 of Air Canadaoperated by PAL Airlines, departing from the International Airport St. John’s, encountered problems during landing at 9:30 local time, which caused the aircraft to skid and an engine fire.

According to passenger testimony, one of the plane’s tires did not inflate properly during landing.

“The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left and, as it happened, we heard a pretty loud sound – almost sounding like a crash – as the wing of the plane started to slide along the pavement, along with what I guess that it was the engine,” he told the CBC.

Upon landing, the passengers were removed from the plane and then taken to a hangar to be checked by rescuers. No casualties have been reported.

As a precaution, flights at Halifax Airport were temporarily suspended following the incident, while one runway reopened early Sunday morning.
