The historical founder of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Abdullah Ocalanestimated that the approach of Turks and Kurds is a “historical responsibility” and stated “determined” to participate in a peace process that started in Turkey, as the Turkish pro-Kurdish DEM party reported today, after visiting the 75-year-old imprisoned Kurdish leader yesterday Saturday.

“Her reinforcement Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood it is not alone historical responsibility but also urgent need for all peoples,” said Ocalan, who has been imprisoned since 1999 on an island off Istanbul.

I have the necessary competence and determination to make a positive contribution to the new paradigm started by Mr. Bakhtseli and Mr. Erdogan“, said the founder of the PKK, according to the statement issued by the DEM.

Ocalan also said that the delegation that visited him will share his approach with the state and political circles. “In light of this, I am prepared to take the necessary measures and to I appeal her”.

According to the Kurdish leader, it is the era of peace, democracy and brotherhood for Turkey and the region, and he is said to be qualifying solution coming from inside Turkey on initiative of all political circles in Turkey and field the Turkish National Assembly.

He also states that the events in Gaza and Syria have shown that the solution to this problem, “which is gangrenous due to external interventions”, cannot be postponed any longer.

He also argues that these efforts will be a very valuable guide for a democratic transformation of Turkey.

Yesterday’s DEM (Democracy and Equality Party) visit to Öcalan – the first in ten years – took place a day after the Turkish government gave the green light to the party’s request.

The decision came two months after the head of Turkey’s nationalist MHP party, Bahtceli, extended a sudden “olive branch” to Ocalan, calling on him in parliament to renounce terrorism and disband his organization, a position supported by Erdogan, in exchange for his release from prison.

The separatist Kurdish organization PKK, which has been waging an armed struggle against the Kurdish state for decades, is considered a “terrorist” organization by Turkey as well as by the United States, the European Union and Britain.

The DEM announcement in detail

“We had a comprehensive meeting with Mr. Abdullah Ocalan in Imrali on December 28, 2024. He was healthy and cheerful. His views on finding a permanent solution to the Kurdish Question were crucial.

During the meeting, in which the latest developments in the Middle East and Turkey were evaluated, Mr. Öcalan presented positive proposals for a solution against the dark future scenarios imposed (from outside).

The general framework of his thoughts and approach is as follows:

– The re-strengthening of the Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood is a historical responsibility and is an urgent need and of decisive importance for the fate of all peoples.

– For the success of the process, it is necessary for all political circles in Turkey to take initiatives, act constructively and contribute positively without getting caught up in narrow and ephemeral calculations. One of the most important fields for this contribution will undoubtedly be the Grand Turkish National Assembly.

– The events in Gaza and Syria have shown that the solution to this problem, which is gangrenous due to external interventions, cannot be postponed any longer. The input and suggestions of the opposition are also valuable for this effort to have a successful outcome in direct proportion to the seriousness of this issue.

– I have the ability and determination to offer the necessary contribution in a positive way to the new paradigm that Mr. Bakhceli and Mr. Erdogan have strengthened.

– The delegation will share this approach with both the state and political circles. In this light, I am ready to take the necessary positive step and make the necessary call.

– All these efforts of ours will bring the country to the level it deserves and at the same time will be a very valuable guide for a democratic transformation.

– This is the era of peace, democracy and brotherhood for Turkey and the region.”
