The Palestinian authorities announced Friday night into Saturday that one person was killed and nine were injured in a refugee camp in Nablusin the possessed West Bankin an Israeli army operation, which it said was responding to an attack.

An 18-year-old, Mr Mohammad Medhat Amin Amer“was killed by (Israeli) occupation fire in the Balata camp,” the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry said in a statement, also speaking of nine wounded, “of which four are in serious condition.”

The Israeli army told AFP this morning that it was attacked during an “anti-terrorist operation in the Nablus area”. “Terrorists planted explosives in the area to attack the soldiers” and threw Molotov cocktails and stones, among other things, according to the army. “The troops fired in the direction of the terrorists in order to eliminate the threat,” the army added, noting that no soldiers were injured.

The official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that Israeli troops entered the camp from the Awarta checkpoint and “deployed snipers on the roofs of surrounding buildings.”

The violence associated with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has escalated particularly in the West Bank since the war broke out, triggered by Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.

At least 815 Palestinians have been killed there, either in Israeli military operations or by Israeli settler fire, according to Palestinian Authority figures. At the same time, according to official Israeli data, at least 25 Israelis, civilians and soldiers, have been killed in Palestinian attacks or during military operations.
