Millions of Americans in the central and eastern states will be faced with snow storms, frost and rain until Monday, the National Weather Service warns of USA (NWS).

The governors of Kentucky and Virginia have already declared states of emergency for the coming storm.

NWS meteorologist Rich Bunn said the severe weather will affect more than 60 million residents. In a huge area from Nebraska and Kansas to the eastern end of the USA (Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Virginia) the height of snow may reach 30 cm.

The frost is expected to cause power outages in parts of southern Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, meteorologist Rich Bunn said. “It will be almost impossible to drive in some areas,” he added.

Kansas City International Airport was temporarily closed Saturday afternoon due to rapidly accumulating ice, local authorities said.

Bunn said the storm is forecast to move away from the East Coast on Monday night, but an arctic cold wave will bring freezing temperatures to eastern states into the middle of next week.
