The heat wave that is sweeping the southeast is at its peak today Australiaraising the state’s wildfire alert level Victoria.

Authorities in the state of Victoria are warning of “extreme” fire danger in some areas.

Speaking to the ABC television network, the meteorologist Miriam Bradbury warned that the heat wave in Victoria would peak today and that a breath of fresh air was expected from the evening. Seasonally high temperatures are also forecast for parts of Western Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania.

Australia’s worst summer in recent years was 2019-2020, when fires burned an area the size of Turkey and killed 33 people.
