The Mexican government said on Friday it was ready to cooperate to take in its citizens who are being deported from the United States, as Donald Trump has promised a crackdown on migrants.

“We will always welcome the arrival of Mexican men and women on our soil with open arms,” the State Department said in a statement after the White House announced that Mexico had received “four flights in one day” of deported nationals.

For its part, the Mexican government has not confirmed either the arrival of the flights or an agreement to receive a specified number of planes carrying deportees.

White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt expressed her delight that “Mexico yesterday (Thursday) accepted a record four flights of deportees in one day!”, in a message on the X platform.

“These measures are in addition to unrestricted land border pushbacks, the deportation of non-Mexicans” and the re-establishment of a US program that urges migrants to remain in Mexico pending a response to their asylum claim.

“Mexico maintains very good relations with the United States government and we cooperate with respect for our sovereignty on a wide range of issues, including immigration,” added the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum this week proposed providing “humanitarian aid” then organizing the “repatriation” of foreigners who have been targeted by the first measures of the administration of Donald Trump.
