The collision of the American Airlines passenger aircraft and the US Army’s Black Hawk helicopter was “preventable”, the new Trump government minister told reporters on Thursday morning.

“We’ll wait to have all the information, but from what I’ve seen so far, I think this could be avoided? Absolutely, “said Transport Minister Sean Duffy.

The minister agreed with President Donald Trump’s post on social media on Wednesday that the conflict “should have been prevented”.

Indeed, as he pointed out the Black Hawk helicopter, he was in a “standard flight plan” at the time of the collision and knew that there was a passenger plane near him.

“Last night, the helicopter was following a typical route. If you live in Washington, you will see helicopters over the river, this flight plan is common,” Duffy said.

The US Minister of Transport also added that the American Airlines flight also followed a “standard flight pattern”, noting reporters that the routes of both aircraft “were not unusual”.

“It was not uncommon for a military aircraft to fly over the river and the aircraft landing on DCA If you live in the area, you will often see it with these two aircraft cooperating,” Duffy said.

Duffy said that “we will not be quiet until we have answers to families and passengers.”
