Humanitarian nightmare in full swing in Ukraine as wellof 3 million refugees have fled the country since the Russian invasion on February 24, the UN said.
Most have sought refuge in neighboring Poland, arriving at the border by train or bus.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres gave a briefing on the number of refugees late Wednesday, stressing: “The people of Ukraine desperately need peace. And people all over the world demand it. “Russia must stop this war now.”
He described Vladimir Putin and Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Pridas as “war criminals”, agreeing with Joe Biden.
The Polish Deputy Foreign Minister told the BBC that the bombing of the theater in Mariupol was another sign that the Russian president’s forces were resorting to more brutal tactics.
In a message to the US Congress, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reiterated its call for a ban on flights over its country and called for more sanctions against Russia.
More than 3 million Ukrainian refugees have fled their country.
