The mega-increase in fuel prices announced last week by Petrobras provoked a series of reactions in the federal government. In recent days, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) amended statements in which he alternated criticism of the state-owned company for its “lack of sensitivity” with the population and regrets for not having interference in the company’s decisions.
Bolsonaro also raised the possibility of changing the command of Petrobras again, removing General Joaquim Silva e Luna from the presidency – appointed by him less than a year ago after a similar dispute over readjustments.
Silva e Luna has already said that he will not interfere with Petrobras’ pricing policy, which has been following the international market since 2016, and for the time being sustains himself in office with the support of other influential military personnel in the government.
In this Thursday’s episode (17), Café da Manhã talks to the editorial secretary of the BrasÃlia branch of sheetJulianna Sofia, about the backstage of the tension between Bolsonaro and Petrobras — and how the government tries to contain the political damage caused by the high fuel prices.
