All US presidents at some point during their term of office questioned the independence of the Ministry of Justice. But no one tried as immediately or as decisively to make the ministry as its president Donald Trump.

Trump’s subordinates undertook to execute the plan with a special warmth from his first week of return to power. But now, with the redundancies of career judicial officials involved in legal affairs against the President, Trump government is crossing a dangerous red line: He is retaliation against prosecutors because they just did their job.

Trump’s associates did not even hide their punitive mood at all. “You played an important role in President Trump’s prosecution. The proper functioning of the government depends to a large extent on the confidence of senior officials in their subordinates, “the Attorney General James Machenery, the head of the Ministry of Justice, told prosecutors. ‘Given your important role in the president’s prosecution, I don’t think the ministry’s leadership can trust you That you will help in the faithful implementation of the president’s agenda, “he had told them.

Trump and his associates had preceded this development both during his election campaign and after his election to the Presidency. However, the implementation of that threat is shocking. Judicial officials also enjoy protection against possible mass redundancies, especially on the occasion of their political views.

Trump’s partners know this. Hence Machenery told them that they were free to turn to the competent department responsible for protecting civil servants from unfair redundancies. In the end they may receive late earnings and regain their place.

In any case, however, their dismissal was The revenge that Trump has long been longing for. At the same time, he demonstrated his intention to put the rest of the ministry officials under control, sending a clear impatient: Be very careful about what you do. Otherwise we will chase you.

This was also the message he sent throughout his first week of rule. Bradley Wainsiimer, a senior ministry official, after a long term as a trusted adviser to democratic and Republican justice ministers, was relegated. While leading executives – leaders with decades of experience in corruption, political rights, environment – have joined a new section set up with the aim of chasing cities that dare to provide protection to immigrants. And then the redundancies of prosecutors by Trump followed.

Such actions have no previous. During George Bush’s rule, Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez ordered the dismissal of seven US prosecutors, apparently for political reasons, questioning their “belief” in Bush. His move caused a storm of reactions, of course, with the Congress and the Ministry’s internal supervisory authority to conduct investigations.

But it is important to note that they were appointed by the president himself. On the contrary, Monday’s redundancies are an attack on a career prosecutors who have served various governments. They owe it to any president except to the Constitution and the laws.

But what is the view of the Attorney General Pam Body For all this? Very conveniently, these redundancies took place before the approval of its appointment. But did Bodai, and the same career prosecutor, agreed with them or gave the green light? If so, this makes it inappropriate to serve as the head of the Ministry of Justice. If not, then it should cancel these redundancies.

Unlikely, of course. Bondai is Trump’s ally, and his lawyer in his first referral. “[Στο] Ministry of Justice, prosecutors will be persecuted – the bad guys. Researchers will be investigated. Because the ‘deep state’, during President Trump’s last term, was hiding in the shadows. But now the spotlight has fallen on them and everyone can be investigated, “he said in 2023.

On Monday, it was also known that the US Prosecutor in the Columbia District, who prosecuted the events of January 6, has begun internal investigation into conducting those investigations.

Edward R. Martin Junior is the “fox” appointed to oversee the “coop”. His biography does not seem to have a prosecution background nor any special experience in criminal law.

But it doesn’t matter: Martin has the credentials that obviously count. He is a former president of the Republican Party in Missouri and a close associate of conservative activist Filis Slafli. He had also backed the allegations of electoral fraud – at a concentration a day before the Capitol invasion, called on the “hard -core actual Americans” to fight until their “last breath” in order to “stop the theft” – and an ardent defender of the protesters of January 6th.

Now, Martin has ordered what he calls “project 1512”, an emergency investigation into the prosecutors of the law on blocking, known as Section 1512, to prosecute some of the defendants on 6 January. The Supreme Court ruled last year that the law is basically the destruction of documents and could not be used against protesters who tried to prevent the ratification of 2020 electoral results. “Obviously, his invocation was a big fiasco of our service,” Martin in his electronic message to staff, adding that “the knife must reach the bone”.

Let’s not laugh. It was not a secret conspiracy ruthless prosecutors aimed at abuse of law. Prior to the ruling of the Supreme Court, only one of the 15 first -degree judges and two of the three appeals questioned the law interpretation of the law.

Perhaps the “project 1512” will only take place for the view, as part of Martin’s attempt to secure a permanent position of Attorney General in Washington. But everything is pieces of the same puzzle, the prosecutors’ redundancies and the investigation into the supposed “fiasco”. Prosecutors must be aligned (with Trump’s Houses), different… – and raises serious concerns what could the ‘different’ mean.

Pricing transfers, revenge redundancies and criminal investigations should be expected. So to complain after such a first week of governance would be stupid.
