Foreign Minister earlier had a meeting in Damascus with transitional president Al Sarah and External Minister Asad al -Shaibani
After India and the United Arab Emirates, the Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis is currently taking place (9/2) visit to Syria. Earlier he had a meeting in Damascus with the transitional president Al Sarah and the Minister of External Assad al -Sibani.
At the end of their meeting, he stated, among other things, that Greece “as a credible interlocutor of the Arab world will be present, so as to ensure calm and prosperity in the region”
The whole statement by George Gerapetritis:
I met today in Damascus with the transitional president of Syria and the Foreign Minister.
We discussed the new Syrian institutions after the fall of the ASSAD totalitarian regime. Institutions that should be based on the rule of law. They are institutions that will be included and tolerant. They are institutions that will be perfectly compatible with international law, and in particular, with the law of the sea.
Greece is actively present in the region, a member of the United Nations Security Council, a powerful member of the European Union, with particular interest due to Christian populations in the region. As a trusted interlocutor of the Arab world, he will be present to ensure calm and prosperity in the region.
