Viktor Nikolayevich Terechenko, mayor of Velikoburlutska in the northeastern Kharkiv region of Ukraine, was arrested by Russian forces, according to a video by Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv regional state administration, on Thursday.
“It simply came to our notice then [οι Ρώσοι] arrested the head of the Velikoburlutska community, Viktor Nikolayevich Terechenko. Such people must be safe. Viktor Nikolaevich Terechenko was abducted from his workplace and taken to the local police station. “They are holding him and they will not release him,” said Syniehubov.
Locals condemn the act, he added, and said he was working to secure the release of the village leader as soon as possible.
“Soon our occupied territories will be ours again,” he added.
Although Russian forces have not occupied Kharkov, “they continue to terrorize the civilian population, especially against the leaders of territorial communities in the Kharkiv region today,” Syniehubov said.
This comes a day after the mayor of Melitopol, Ivan Fedorov, who had been arrested by Russian forces, was released in a prisoner exchange.
