Zelensky: Hundreds trapped in Mariupol theater – “Western weapons are slow”

by

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed on Friday that rescue operations were under way at the bombed-out theater in Mariupol, from where 130 people have been rescued alive so far.

In his last sermon, Zelensky stressed that hundreds of people are still trapped under the ruins of the theater that was bombed on Thursday.

In an online speech, Zelensky also said that bombings by Russian forces continue to prevent authorities from establishing effective humanitarian corridors to the besieged port city in southern Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine also commented that Western arms deliveries to Ukraine are very slow. “We remind some Western leaders again that it will be a moral defeat for them … if Ukraine does not take advanced weapons,” he said.

The Russian military said the fighting have reached the center of the strategically important citywhere thousands of people remain trapped.

“At least 1300 trapped”

About 130 people managed to escape alive from a shelter of the Drama Theater in Mariupol after the Russian bombing, but in the basement of the theater, under the wreckage, at least they remain trapped. 1,300 people, The statement came from Ukrainian Parliamentary Human Rights Commissioner Ludmila Denisova on Friday.

“From now on, we know that 130 people have been evacuated, but according to our data, there are more than 1,300 people who are in these basements, in this shelter,” he said.

“We are praying “Everyone is alive, but at the moment there is no information about them,” Denisova said on the air of a telethon for Ukrainians on Friday. Rescuers are continuing their efforts to find civilians under the rubble of the theater.

The images that come to light daily from the besieged Mariupol cause shock and disgust.

Mariupol, with several Greek expatriates, bears no resemblance to the city 23 days before the Russian invasion.

It is one of the most severely affected areas of Ukraine, with clashes and bombings continuing throughout the day.

More specifically, last Wednesday the panic was sown by Russian bombing of the Mariupol theater, where hundreds of Ukrainians had taken refuge since the beginning of the war to escape the attacks.

130 people were pulled alive from the rubble of the theater, while the number of people who lost their lives is still unknown.

Italy will help rebuild

Italy will be one of the first countries to undertake the reconstruction of the Mariupol theater after the criminal act of the Russians. This news was confirmed by the announcement of Dario Francescini through his Twitter account:

“Italy is ready to rebuild the Mariupol theater. The Cabinet approved my proposal to provide Ukraine with the resources and means for its reconstruction as soon as possible. Theaters of all countries belong to all humanity “

Zelenski then reciprocated through his own account to this initiative of goodwill and good relations between the two peoples with the immediate retweet of the post of the Italian minister.

In his reply he states: “Thank you. You set a good example to follow. Together we will rebuild the country to the last brick “
