The German government agreed to install permanently ready and operationally independent unit of its Armed Forces in Lithuania
The European Investment Bank (EIB) will contribute to funding the infrastructure for the forthcoming installation of German Armed Forces unit in Lithuania, the Baltic state government announced Wednesday.
“We closed in principle agreement with the EIB” To that, the Lithuanian Minister of Finance assured Rim speaking on a radio station in his country.
The base will be constructed by partnership with the private sector to be co -financed by the European financial institution, he explained.
According to Mr Satzos, the EIB will allocate much of the infrastructure funding, which is expected to cost around 1.5 billion euros. It was no more specific.
The German government agreed to establish a permanently ready and operational independent unit of its Armed Forces in Lithuania, a NATO and EU Member State, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. be operational in 2027.
The unit is planned to be a new facility, which will have a high school field in Rudninkai, near the Lithuanian border with Belarus.
