Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today called for substantive peace talks with Russia, saying that otherwise the other side would need generations to recover from the losses suffered by the war.
The Ukrainian head of state assured that Kyiv has always offered solutions for peace and was in favor of meaningful and honest negotiations on peace and security without delay.
“I want everyone to hear me now, especially in Moscow. “It’s time for a meeting, it’s time to talk,” he said.
“The time has come for territorial integrity to be restored and justice to be done for Ukraine. “Otherwise Russia’s losses will be such that it will take you several generations to recover.”
The two sides have been in talks for weeks, but there is no sign of significant progress beyond the individual agreements on the evacuation of civilians from besieged Ukrainian cities.
Mr Zelensky has accused Russian forces of deliberately obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to targeted urban centers.
“This is a deliberate tactic,” he said. “This is a war crime and (the Russians) will be held accountable for it, 100%.”
Western leaders have accused Russia and the Russian president personally of “war crimes” in recent days, which Moscow denies as “unacceptable.”
According to President Zelensky, there is still no clear information on how many are dead in a theater in the city of Mariupol that was destroyed on Wednesday. The two warring factions blame each other for the destruction of the theater, where hundreds of people had taken refuge.
More than 130 people have been rescued so far, however, the Ukrainian head of state said.
