Serbia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro were in favor of the resolution, while Northern Macedonia abstained from voting.
Northern Macedonia was the only one of the Western Balkan countries to abstain from the vote at the UN General Assembly on the resolution adopted, which confirms support in Ukraine and respect for its territorial integrity.
The resolution, drawn up by Ukraine and its European allies, on the occasion of the three years since the start of the Russian invasion, was released by 93 votes in favor of 18 against – including the US – and 65 missing.
Serbia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro were in favor of the resolution, while Northern Macedonia abstained from voting.
On the contrary, Northern Macedonia had supported the US respective resolution plan, which initially demanded the rapid ending of the conflict without reference to Ukraine’s territorial integrity and which was significantly amended by the adoption of many amendments by European countries that introduced this reference. And they emphasized the need for a “fair peace”. Eventually, Northern Macedonia abstained from the vote and for this amended resolution.
Northern Macedonia Prime Minister Christian Mitskoski earlier today and answering journalistic questions did not explain why his country co -operated the competitive plan of the US.
“So we have decided that we would be co -workers of the resolution submitted by the United States of America to the United Nations,” said only Christian Mitskoski, who is considered a supporter of the new US President Donald Trump.
Political analysts in Skopje believe that the stance of Northern Macedonia to be drawn up with the original, competitive plan of a resolution compiled by the US and not with what Ukraine and European governments have been drawn up is due to a “opening” that Mitskoski is attempting to the US. Frustrated by the EU, which still maintains his country in the European family’s vestibule and doesn’t start Integration negotiations with Skopje.
The previous center -left government of Northern Macedonia had been fully supported and had supported all EU actions on the Russian attack on Ukraine.
The right-wing VMRO-DPMNE party led by Christian Mitskoski prevailed with a big difference in the last parliamentary elections held in the country last May and the following month formed a government. Mitskoski himself and his gum maintain excellent relations with Hungary Prime Minister Victor Orban and his gum, Fidesz.
