The Commander of the Syrian Kurdish forces Masluum Abdi welcomed Abdullah Ocalan’s “historical” call for disarmament and dismantling of the PKK, however, noting that this call “is not related to us in Syria”.

The leader of the Kurdistan Labor Party (PKK) today called on the organization that he himself created in 1978 to deposit its weapons and dismantle, appealing to resolve the Kurdish issue in Turkey through “peace and democracy”.

In his statements at a press conference, Abdi, the leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), speaking via a translator, made it clear that the call of Ocalan is only about PKK and “not related to us in Syria”.

“If there is peace in Turkey, it means that there is no excuse for the Turkish forces to continue the attacks on us here in Syria,” he said.

He added that the call of Ocalan will have positive consequences in the area.

The SDFs have established an autonomous government in areas of northeast Syria under their control. Allies from Western countries that formed international anti -anti -coalition coalition, these Kurdish forces were the spearhead in the fight against the Islamic State organization.
