Iran today welcomed the appeal of the founder and leader of the Kurdistan Labor Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan, who is imprisoned in Turkey, to the movement to deposit weapons and dissolve, welcoming a progress to the “denial”.

The historic leader of this organization called on the PKK on Thursday to turn a page after four decades of armed struggle against the Turkish state, which considers the PKK “terrorist” organization.

This is an “important step towards denial of violence,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Emil Baya reacted in a statement.

Iran “welcomes every process that leads to the end of terrorism and to enhance the security of neighboring Turkey”, he added, expressing the hope that this development would “also have positive results in the region”.

In early February, Iranian Intelligence Minister Emil Hatib talked to the head of Turkish intelligence services Ibrahim Kalin about “fighting terrorist organizations, notably the PKK and the Islamic State jihadist organization”.

Tehran accuses the Iranian Kurdish groups of launching attacks on Iranian forces and stabbing riots in Iran.
