Government agents of the US president Donald Trump they arrested a Palestinian which had played a prominent role in last year Columbia University New York, the working union of working students announced today.

The student Mahmoud Halil of the School of International and Public Affairs of the University was arrested by agents of the US Department of Interior Ministry of Security yesterday, Saturday, at his home at the university, the Student Workers of Columbia trade union said in a statement.

Halil was one of the leading negotiators with the administration of the School on behalf of the Philopalaistine protesters, some of whom had set up camp with tents in Columbia last year, and in April they had occupied them for several hours. Halil was not in the group that had occupied the building, but he was a mediator between the Rector and the protesters.

Halil’s arrest seems to be one of Trump’s first attempts to fulfill his promise that he will seek to expulsion some foreign students who had participated in the Filmate -Protest Movement.

Halil’s wife is an American citizen and he has a green resident card, the union said. Today it remains in custody. Halil’s wife refused to comment through a colleague.

Columbia’s spokesman said the university is prevented by law from disclosing information on individual students.

Representatives of Trump, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who oversees the country’s entry thesis system, did not answer questions. It has not been clear so far why the agents of the Ministry of the Interior have arrested Halil.

In an interview with Reuters yesterday, Saturday, a few hours before he was arrested, with the criticism of the Trump government against Columbia, Halil had expressed concern that he had been targeted by the government because he was talking in the media.
