Her disgust for the Russian atrocities in Mariupolincluding attacks on schools where civilians had taken refuge, but also the “kidnapping and deportation” of Ukrainians, said on Sunday night the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom Liz Tras.
Her post followed a complaint by Ukrainian authorities that the Russians were forcibly sending Mariupol residents to Russia.
Ukrainian MP Anna Sovsun told Britain’s Times Radio that residents of the city were taken to concentration camps after Russian soldiers first checked their documents and telephones.
“They take Ukrainian citizens, send them to what they call sorting camps, and then move them to remote areas of Russia to work without pay. “This is the logic of Nazi Germany.”
He added that these citizens are required to sign statements that they will stay in those areas for two or three years, without pay for their work. He agreed with the remark that in fact the Ukrainian citizens in this case are used as “slaves”.
Speaking to Sky News, one of the Deputy Prime Ministers of Ukraine Olga Stefanishina accused Russia of committing genocide. He added, among other things, that “there are horrific stories we have heard of women being raped for hours and then killed” by Russian soldiers.
Visiting London as a member of a group of Ukrainian politicians a few days ago, MP Lesya Vasilenko said that many women over the age of 60 were “executed after being raped or committed suicide”.
In her message on all these allegations, the British Foreign Secretary concluded that “Putin is resorting to desperate measures as he is not achieving his goals – Putin and his regime will be held accountable.”
