An authentic model of “ET of the aliens”, used in Steven Spielberg’s homonymous film 43 years ago, will be sold at auction by Sotheby’s.

The doll comes from the personal collection of the Italian artist, specialized in special effects, Carlo Rabaldi, who has won three Oscars for his work: David Leeds’ “Dune”, Spylberg’s “Close Contacts” of Spilberg and 1976.

The model, about one meter-high, is one of the three used by Spielberg in the film aired in cinemas in 1982. It is estimated that it will be sold for $ 600,000-900,000.

The doll “embodies the art of a past era before the special effects are imposed via a computer. It’s a nostalgic piece, a symbol of Hollywood’s story, “explained Sotheby’s spokesman Kassandra Haton.

A articulated doll used in the film was sold at auction in December 2022 for $ 2.6 million. A “ET” model was also sold for $ 125,000.

Carlo Rabaldi had designed many trunks and heads of the small alien. The film’s “protagonist” could make 150 different movements, such as stretching his neck or frowning.

The auction will propose other objects of Rabaldi’s collection, such as two sandstone used in David Leeds’ Dune.

The online auction will be completed on April 3.
