The American had been arrested earlier this year, along with two Britons and their Afghan interpreter and is now at the Qatar Embassy in Kabul
An American was released today by the Taliban in Afghanistan, former US former Washington envoy to Kabul, Zalmai Halilzad, announced.
“The American national Fey Hall, who was just released by the Taliban, is now under the protection of our Qatar friends in Kabul and will soon take his way home,” Halilzad told X Platform.
The American had been arrested earlier this year, along with two Britons and their Afghan interpreter.
Hall is at the Qatar Embassy in Kabul, underwent medical examinations and was found to be in good health. Actions are being taken to return to the US, a source that is aware of the case told the French Agency.
Chinese American Hall was arrested on February 1, along with a pair of British friends, Peter and Barbie Reynolds and their interpreter while returning to Bamygian province west of Kabul. This couple, both over 70 years old, married in Kabul in 1970 and since 2009 are heading for educational programs in Afghanistan. Recently, pies of Reynolds said his health “worsened” in prison.
Last week, an American who was imprisoned in Afghanistan for about two years, George Glizman, was released after a rare visit to US officials to Kabul. Earlier this year, two other Americans, Ryan Corbett and William McDendi, were released by the Taliban in return for an Afghan, Han Mohammed, who had been convicted of mine-terrorism in the US.
Following Donald Trump’s re -election to the US presidency, the Taliban government has hoped that it would open a “new chapter” in the two countries’ relations. The Republican president had, during his first term, a peace agreement with the Taliban.
