Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to be interrogated by the police after arresting two of his assistants in the “Qatargate” scandal, that is, the prime minister’s alleged ties of the Prime Minister with Qatar.

According to JPOST, many Israeli media reported that the two suspects in the investigation were Eli Felgainin and Jonatan Uric, former and current members, respectively, of Prime Minister’s Press Office team, Benjamin Netanyahu, while at least two media reported that he would also report that he would also say. Uric and Felnchein have already been arrested, and in addition, a journalist was called for questioning, according to Maariv.

What is Qatargate?

The “Qatargate” case has to do with research on Prime Minister’s assistants, Benjamin Netanyahu. As Jpost reports, the assistants allegedly involved in a scandal in which they were paid by Qatar, while managing negotiations for hostages.

The charges against suspects include bribery, contact with a foreign agent, confidence breach, money laundering and tax offenses.

According to journalist Ben Caspit, both Shin Bet (Israeli Security Service) and police are investigating the allegations that Qatar funded the salary of Netanyahu’s spokesman during the war – a spokesman allegedly accessing the war.

Felgainin is currently in home restriction for the alleged leak of a highly classified document in a German newspaper in order to “reduce” the pressure of public opinion over Netanyahu after the murder of six hostages during Hamas’ captivity at the end of August. Srulik Einhorn, another former member of the Netanyahu Press Office team, allegedly facilitated the contact between Feldin and the newspaper.

Benjamin Netanyahu posted a video on March 22 in which he claimed, without providing evidence, that Shin Bet (Israeli Security Service) director Ronen Bar opened an investigation into “Qatargate” to prevent his dismissal.

Sin Beth’s “Said”

The Israeli government under Prime Minister Netanyahu has decided to dismiss Sin Beth’s head, Ronen Bar, citing “the loss of professional and personal confidence between the prime minister and the director of the service” which prevents the “government and the prime minister”.

Following the appeals lodged by the Israeli opposition and a non -governmental organization, the Supreme Court suspended the bar for Bar until April 8.

The country’s general prosecutor Galli Baharav-Miara, who has a legal adviser to the government, had warned Netanyahu that The court’s ruling temporarily prohibits a new Head of Sin Beth.

However, despite the fact that Supreme Court has frozen the bar of barallowed Netanyahu to interview his candidates.

The decision to dismiss Sin Beth has sparked major demonstrations in Israel, as some Israelis believe that this move by Netanyahu is an authoritarian derogation.
