After the traditional reception ceremony at the Mansion of the Apostles, the royal couple was accepted in Elise by Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron
King of Denmark Frederick I and his wife Mary have begun today a three -day official visit to France, which will seal the strengthening of cooperation in defense, amidst Greenland, Denmark’s autonomous territory that Dania is seeking.
After the traditional reception ceremony at the Mansion of the Apostles, the royal couple was accepted in Elise by Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron. After the meeting, a formal dinner will follow.
This first official visit of a Danish monarch after 1978 took place after the French president’s visit to the Scandinavian country in August 2018.
The visit “takes place in the context of a relationship characterized by very strong convergence in relation to the challenges of European sovereignty”, mainly in defense, and in support of Ukraine, Elise said. Denmark gave Ukraine 19 French -made Caesar cannons.
The King of Denmark, whose father was French, is himself a French -speaking and has an “extremely strong” personal relationship with France, the French presidency continues.
The visit takes place amid reflection on the transatlantic relationship, with Donald Trump’s return to the White House in January, and Denmark will take over the electoral presidency of the European Union Council in the second half of 2025.
The tone changed between the US and Denmark following the visit of US Vice President Jay Di Vance on Friday to the US military base of Greenland.
During his visit, Trump’s right hand violently criticized Denmark’s supposed inactivity of this territory, accusing it of “not invested enough in the security of this incredible and wonderful land”.
In this context, the Foreign Ministers of France and Denmark will conclude a strategic cooperation agreement tomorrow, reinforcing close bilateral relations.
The royal visit will also give the opportunity to “enhance partnerships and corporate relations in the fields of health, defense, ecological transition and energy, culture and cultural heritage”, Elise said without more clarifications.
King Frederick and President Macron will interfere with the French-Danish Economic Forum on Tuesday, mainly in the presence of the Danish pharmaceutical giant Novo Nordisk, which has several production facilities in France, and almost 50 other Danish companies.
