Strong reactions have sparked statements by US President Jay Di Vance who said America was borrowing money from “Chinese farmers“To buy products made by ‘Chinese farmers’.

According to Politico, Vance during an interview with Fox News last Thursday and while defending US President Donald Trump’s tariff measures, he used the term “farmers” referring to the Chinese.

“I think it is useful for all of us to take a step back and wonder what the globalized economy has brought to the United States of America,” Vance said.

“Basically, it is based on two principles, taking huge debt to buy things that make other countries for us… we borrow money from Chinese farmers to buy the things that Chinese farmers build“, He added.

China’s reaction

Beijing “has made it clear its position on its trade relations with the US,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lynn Jian said during a press conference.

“Listening to words that lack knowledge and respect, such as those said by the Vice -President, is surprising and regretted,” he noted.

And all this while the US and China are in the whirlwind of a trade war, following Donald Trump’s decision to tax Chinese products with 34%duties.
