The US and other western nations are considering exclude Russia from the G20Reuters reported, citing sources.

In fact, yesterday, Poland proposed to US officials to replace Russia in the “group” and reportedly received a “positive response”.

The G20 is a group of the world’s largest economies that aims to coordinate action on issues affecting the global economy, including climate change and growth.

Such a move could add to existing economic sanctions against Russia by the West. However, other key G20 nations are likely to veto – including China, India and Saudi Arabia, analysts say.

As a result, some predict that the G7’s Western allies may boycott the G20 summit this year, something Indonesia, the club’s current president, has been warned about. Jakarta declined to comment.

Asked about US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, he said: “We believe that Russia can not function as usual in international institutions and in the international community.”

Russia was also a member of the G7, but was excluded after the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
