The European Union is one step ahead of signing a Defense and Security Pact with the UKpaving the way for the participation of British defense companies in European procurement programs.

According to the Financial Times, the deal is expected to be signed next month, during a summit of EU leaders in the United Kingdom, the first such meeting after Brexit.

“Britain regains its role,” a European diplomat told the Financial Times. “This agreement will seal its reposition as a key partner in European security.”

At the same time, negotiations on two more energy, immigration and fishing agreements continue.

At the same time, the political leadership of Brussels seems to be in favor of tightening ties while Economics Commissioner Valdis Dobrovskis said: “To enhance Europe’s defense we have to do a lot of things in the EU, but we must also do many things outside the EU.”
