“Based on the most recent count, the accounts of the attacks is 56 dead,” said Media Consultant Solomon Iorpev
Armed Forces killed at least 56 people on Thursday night in Friday in the state of Beniu today announced by an official at the Governor’s office, revising the previous report on 17 victims.
“Based on the most recent count, the accounts of the attacks is 56 dead“, Said midfielder Solomon Iorpev, after Governor Iasin Alia visited the area.
Conflicts between nomadic breeders and permanently established growers for the use of agricultural land are common and violent in central Nigeria. Governor Alia has previously attacked Ukum and Logo zones “probably to breeders”.
As many breeders belong to the Muslim ethnicity of the Fulni and many growers are Christians, conflicts often take on a religious or ethnic dimension. Two similar armed attacks at the beginning of the month in the neighboring Plato state, claimed the lives of more than a hundred people.
Solomon Iorpev said the number of victims may increase as search and rescue operations are still continuing.
In central Nigeria, including the Benius state, the land available for cultivation and farming of animals is constantly decreasing due to climate change and the spread of settlements, which triggers a often deadly competition for living space. Noting that Beniu is of strategic importance for Nigeria’s nutritional safety, Irapev asked the federal government to intervene.
