Rafael Rosario Motta, 32, was arrested in the middle of the week by Dominican police after giving many interviews with local media
A man accused of falsely spreading many people from the club that collapsed on April 8 at Domingo Santo, was released today, on restrictive terms, his lawyer announced.
Rafael Rosario Motta, 32, was arrested in the middle of the week by Dominican police after giving many local media interviews, claiming that he was involved in rescuing 12 people from the debris of the club jet set.
232 people were killed by the collapse of the roof of the building.
Motta was paid for the interviews he was giving, according to police that described him as a “pseudo -priest”. His lawyer, Johanan Linares Rosario, said he was released today with a guarantee of 200,000 peso (about 3,400 euros) and a ban on leaving the country.
Among other things, Motta said he rescued Elianda Kinterher’s news presenter.
“I did it because they paid me (…) I apologize to the world, I apologize to the authorities,” he said in a video released by the police.
The club’s roof collapsed at dawn on April 8, while about 500-1,000 people were watching a concert by Merngue Ruby Peres star, who was among the victims. This disaster is considered the greatest tragedy of the century for the Dominican Republic and exceeds, in number of victims, the 2005 fire in a prison in Iguay, where 136 prisoners were killed.
