Former Senator Bob Menendez’s wife was convicted of accepting bribes in gold, cash and a Mercedes Benz in return for helping her husband to use his power to help entrepreneurs and the Egyptian government, according to the Egyptian government.

Nandin Menendez, 58, was found guilty of 15 charges on Monday in the same New York courtroom where her husband, a Democrat from New Jersey, was sentenced last year with two businessmen and sentenced to 11 years in prison. Prosecutors said that Nandin Menendez and her husband, a former chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee, were “partners in crime”.

Prosecutors said that after they started coming out in 2018, she received bribery to isolate him from receiving direct bribery. In return, the Senator helped the Egyptian government as he was seeking military assistance and helped an American-Egyptian businessman, prosecutors said. He also tried to influence the outcome of criminal investigations to help corrupt businessmen, prosecutors added.

Menendez, who was wearing a mask throughout the Monday process, showed no reaction to the verdict, which the jurors ended after about six hours of consultation. The sentence will be announced on June 12th.
