The German government will adopt faster decision-making procedures for arms exports to Ukraine, Economy Minister Robert Habeck told the newspaper Die Welt on Wednesday.
Arms deliveries must be approved by various ministries, coordinated by the federal chancellery.
The applications concerning Ukraine will now have the “highest priority” in terms of their processing and the Ministry of Economy will approve them immediately, Welt said, citing government sources.
“When we made the decision to supply weapons to Ukraine, we took a path that I hope everyone understood we should follow consistently,” Mr Habek told the newspaper.
“For me and this ministry, it means that we will certainly approve all the deliveries of weapons in the agreed corridor. “This will be done without delay,” the minister added.
A ministry spokesman was not available for comment.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has prompted Germany to make a historic shift in its policy of not sending weapons to war zones. However, the Ukrainian government is complaining about delays.
The German Defense Ministry on Wednesday requested that another 2,000 anti-tank weapons be sent to Ukraine from the Bundeswehr stockpile, Welt said.
On Wednesday, German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock said that extra Strela anti-aircraft missiles from her army reserves were once on their way to Ukraine, after delays.
