Seven charred corpses inside a truck in Mexico

Seven charred bodies were found in a vehicle in the industrial state of Guanajuato, in central Mexico, where rivals of drug cartels are facing, the authorities informed on Wednesday.

The victims were found in a truck and have not yet been identified, the State Security Ministry clarified.

The car had license plates of the neighboring state of Michoacάνn, which is affected by the violence of “organized crime”, according to the expression used by the press when referring to drug cartels.

A colonial city in northern Mexico, Guanajuato is the capital of the homonymous state and operates a refinery there, among other places.

The state of Wanahuato, like several others, is plagued by violence over the clash between the Santa Rosa de Lima and Jalisco Youth Generations cartels.

The two rival gangs claim control of drug trafficking and fuel smuggling.

More than 340,000 homicides have been reported in Mexico since December 2006, when then-President Felipe Calderon declared war on drug-trafficking gangs.
