Russians lose ground: 55 km pushed out of Kiev – Fierce fighting in Donetsk and Lugansk

by

Fighting continues for the 29th day around the besieged city of Izium, the General Staff of the National Defense of Ukraine informed via Facebook today.

In the Donetsk region most Ukrainian units are under fire, Ukrainian generals said.

Respectively in Lugansk, the battles are concentrated in Rubizne (60,000 inhabitants), in Severodonietsk (100,000) and in Popasna (20,000).

Battles are also unfolding in the north. Russian artillery bombardment reported in the cities of Kalinivka, Gorinka, Romanivka and in the northeastern suburbs of Kiev.

The Russian military has retreated more than 30 kilometers east of Kiev in the past 24 hours and has begun setting up defensive positions on various fronts in Ukraine, a senior US Department of Defense official said yesterday.

“The Ukrainians managed to repel the Russians 55 kilometers east and northeast of Kiev,” the official told the press, speaking on condition of anonymity. On Tuesday, the Pentagon also estimated that Russian forces were 15 to 20 kilometers from the center of the Ukrainian capital.

Ukrainian forces stopped Russian troops in the suburb of Brovary, according to Ukrainian generals, who also said their opponents could not penetrate the Ukrainian defenses and reach the northwestern suburbs of the capital.

Russian naval activity is also increased in the Black Sea.

At the same time, early today the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky called for video demonstrations around the world a month after the Russian offensive began.

“Support Ukraine, freedom, life. “Go out in your squares and streets so that everyone can see and hear you”, he urged. “Shout that people count, freedom counts, Ukraine counts,” he continued. “Russia has started a war against freedom,” he said, adding that Moscow was “trying to undermine the freedom of all people in Europe and in the world.”
