Twelve people lost their lives and others were injured in a car accident in the state Chihuahuain Northern Mexico, local authorities announced Wednesday.

The crash caused a van on Tuesday night, between communities of Guatsochi and Yokivo, the State Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement released.

“The driver of the vehicle that caused the accident abandoned the place of the collision and then armed from the vehicle.”said the same source earlier.

The prosecutor’s office clarified that many of the injured were taken to various state hospitals.

Traffic accidents have multiplied in Mexico in recent years. The main reasons are the poor state of vehicles and roads, fatigue or carelessness of drivers, the authorities explain.

In one of the most tragic such events this year, a truck collided with a bus making their lives lost 38 people on February 8th in the state Campcece (southeast).
