The announcement published by the Palestinian News Agency reports that 170 members of the Central Council of OAP voted in favor of the decision
The Palestinian Liberation Organization (OAS) today approved the creation of Mahmoud Abbas Vice President – and possibly its successor – in a move that analysts consider it necessary to alleviate international concerns about Palestinian leadership.
The announcement published by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reports that 170 members of the Central Council of the OAP voted in favor of the decision, one voted down and another was abstaining.
No one was immediately appointed to this role.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will have the right to entrust his vice -president, relieve him of his duties or accept his resignation, as reports.
Mahmoud Abbas, 89, led the OPA and the Palestinian Authority after the death of Yasser Arafat in 2004, but has denied the reforms for years, including the successor definition.
The Palestinian authority -backed by the West has limited power on the occupied West Bank, while not controlling the Gaza Strip after the Civil War with Hamas in 2007.
