US Secretary of State Marko Rubio will soon talk to his counterparts in India and Pakistan and encourage them not to escalate tensions after the deadly attack of Islamist fighters in the Indian Kashmir Administration, said Tuesday.
As the ReutersWashington said on Sunday that it is in contact with its nuclear armed neighbors in Asia at multiple levels, urging them to work towards a ‘Responsible solution’as she called it.
“We communicate with both parties and tell them, of course, not to escalate the situation”A spokesman for the State Department told reporters, citing Rubio’s statement.
Rubio expects to speak with India and Pakistan Foreign Ministers today or tomorrow and encouraged other foreign ministers to do the same, the State Department added.
India blamed Pakistan for April 22 attack that claimed life on 26 people. Pakistan denies any responsibility and requested a neutral investigation.
India is an increasingly important US partner, as Washington aims to tackle China’s growing influence. Pakistan remains an ally of Washington, even after the US departed from neighboring Afghanistan in 2021.
Kashmir, where the majority of its inhabitants are Muslims, is fully claimed both by India, where the majority of the inhabitants are Hindus, as well as by Islamic Pakistan, who control only part of it and have waged wars for the Himalayan region.
After the attack, India suspended the 1960 Indian waters, which regulates the distribution of water by the Indian River and its tributaries, and Pakistan closed airspace in Indian airlines.

Hindu nationalist Indian Prime Minister Narendra Monti has sworn to punish attackers. Pakistan’s Minister of Defense said that A military invasion from India is imminent.
