Medvedev: Western sanctions will not affect the Kremlin

It is “foolish” to think that western sanctions against Russian companies could have any effect on government of Moscownoted today the former chairman and deputy head of the Security Council of Russia Dmitry Medvedevaccording to statements quoted by the Russian news agency RIA.

All they will do the sanctions is to unite Russian society “They will not cause popular discontent with the authorities,” Medvedev said in an interview with RIA.

The West imposed series of sanctions in Russia after its invasion of Ukrainebut after a month of war, the Kremlin says it will continue the attack until it achieves its goals of what it calls “demilitarization and de-Naziization” of Ukraine.

Some of the sanctions are specifically targeted billionaires believed to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Let us ask ourselves: can any of these big businessmen have even the slightest influence in the position of the country’s leadership?” Medvedev commented.

“I tell you openly: no, there is no case.”
