The mayor of Newark, the largest city of New Jersey, who is also a candidate for the ruler of the state with the Democratic Party, was arrested by federal agents during a protest mobilization at a reservation center for immigrants, following a confrontation.

It is not clear whether the mayor has been officially arrested, nor is it known where he is, after the police were handcuffed. According to Politico, the Alina HampyPresident Donald Trump’s adviser, who is also prosecuting a prosecutor at New Jersey, confirmed that Baraka was arrested.

There had been a chaotic scene in the parking lot of the detention center, with the participation of protesters, federal agents and three members of Congress (MPs Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez and Lamonica macaever) in Deleini Hall.

This facility, with a capacity of 100 beds, reopened this month to house arrested immigrants. The municipality has sued the private facilities management company, the Geo Group, arguing that it has not gone through the necessary inspections, nor does it have permits. Geo Group denies it.

The confrontation began after Baraka was first allowed to pass through the fenced parking lot of the facility but then he was told to leave. The three MPs were already in the building and went out, while authorities were threatening to arrest the mayor and candidate.
