The world is more divided than ever before, but there is still something in which (almost) all agree: their aversion to the US
Donald Trump’s return to the White House has dramatically affected the image of the rest of the United States, with their popularity collapsing rapidly, as the new survey of the perception of democracy shows.
The index sums up the world’s views on democracy, geopolitics and the powerful of the planet.
The majority of more than 110,000 respondents in 100 countries involved in the survey had a total of a negative perception of the US, with the country falling sharply in the world rankings compared to last year.
America’s image has suffered a particularly strong blow to EU countries – a fact rather expected, as US President Donald Trump has described the block as “horrible”, “deplorable” and “intentionally focused on harming the United States”.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen, a former head of NATO and founder of the Foundation of the Republic of the Republic, who signed the index research, said that “it is not surprised that the United States perception has worsened so abruptly.”
At the same time, in the meantime, China has continued to improve its global image, surpassing the US for the first time in the ranking and attracting most positive comments to all areas except Europe.
And Russia, whose reputation was overthrown after the complete invasion of Vladimir Putin in Ukraine in 2022, is still (slightly) more unprofessional than the US – with its image, however.
Donald Trump’s image in the meantime is commensurate with that of his country. Research has shown that it is less popular in the world than his Russian and Chinese counterparts, Vladimir Putin and Si Jing.
Trump garnered the worst score between a series of political, cultural and spiritual leaders including X owner, Ilon Musk, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, the late Pope Francis, Taylor Swift and Kim Kim.
The worst global image in the world, however, compared to those countries included in research, is Israel, especially in the Middle East and South Asia. Israel is not popular even in European countries that have historically been its allies, such as Germany, indicating the growing dissatisfaction with the policy pursued by the Tel Aviv government in Gaza and the West Bank.
Last year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Joav Galad for alleged war crimes.
The online survey of the perception of the democracy was conducted by Nira Data and the alliance of the Republics between April 9-23, 2025.
The sample was 111,273 people from 100 countries, with an average sample size of about 1,100 respondents by country.
