In Constantinople they met today Friday, diplomats from Iran and from three European countries, Britain, France and Germany also known as “E3” remaining in 2015 nuclear deal conducting a first round of talks since the US started talks with Tehran in April.

Talks between upper diplomats took place as US President Donald Trump is pushing for a deal which will limit the Iranian nuclear program. On Friday he called on Iran to move quickly after saying that his government had made a proposal to Iran.

An Iranian source near diplomats said that Tehran has not yet received the American proposal, “but Oman has received it and will soon deliver it to Tehran.”

European forces do not participate in current negotiations between Iran and the United States, whose fourth round ended in Oman on Sunday. A new round of talks is currently planned.

According to UN resolution terms for the ratification of the 2015 Nuclear Agreement, the three European forces could re -impose UN sanctions against Tehran -know -how in diplomatic circles as a “snapback mechanism” -unless an agreement on the Nuclear Program is reached.

Iran and Europeans agreed to conduct further conversations if needed, said the deputy Iran’s Foreign Minister, Kazem Garimabadion x on Friday.

“Iran and the three European countries are determined to maintain and make the most of diplomacy,” Garibabadi said. “We will meet again to continue the discussions if needed.”

British diplomat Christian Turner told X that Iran and E3 are committed to having a dialogue and agreed to meet again, without giving a timetable.

According to the terms of a UN resolution validating the 2015 nuclear agreement, the three European forces have a deadline until October 18 to activate the reset mechanism before the resolution expires.

According to diplomats and a document seen by Reuters, E3 countries may do so until August, unless a substantial agreement is reached by then.

Relations between E3 and Iran have worsened in the last year despite sporadic meetings, with the backdrop of new sanctions imposed on Tehran for its ballistic missile program, the detention of foreign citizens and the support of Russia in its war against Ukraine.
