The Lieutenant General Andrei Mordvicovwho was distinguished in major battles in the Ukraine war, was appointed head of the Russian Federation Army.

Born in 1976 in the then Soviet KazakhstanMordvicov was decorated last year as “Hero of the Russian Federation”the highest distinction in Russia.

He had served as head of the Central Military District, and in the spring of 2022 he led the operations that led to the tradition of the Ukrainian forces which resisted the steel mill. Azovstallafter a siege of about 80 days, in Mariup of southern Ukraine.

In 2024 he led the Russian troops who occupied the strategic city Avdieb in the district Donetskas well as other important areas.

Mordvicov succeeds the 69 -year -old general Oleg Saliukovwho was appointed Deputy Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council, a consulting body that regularly meets under President Putin on national security issues.
