The Saudi-led military alliance today launched attacks on targets in Yemen, after warning civilians to stay away from oil sites or facilities in Hodeidah, a port city in the Red Sea.
“Our goal is to protect the world’s energy resources from hostile attacks and to secure the supply chain,” said a statement from Al Arabiya television.
The warning to the civilian population of Yemen came after the military alliance announced that it had intercepted and destroyed two unmanned aircraft, which had been launched against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from Hodeidah oil facilities.
The military alliance has said it will not target areas with civilian populations and will avoid collateral damage to oil facilities.
Yesterday Friday, Houthi rebels launched an attack on Aramco oil facilities in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, causing a large fire in two tanks, without causing any casualties.
Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter, had warned days ago that it would not be responsible for any disruptions in world oil supplies as a result of the Houthi attacks that have intensified over the past three weeks.
