The US government is planning to impose sanctions on Russian companies that it says provide goods and services to Moscow’s armed forces and intelligence services, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) yesterday.
The sanctions are expected to be announced by the US Treasury Department next week, according to a report cited by US officials.
The US Treasury Department declined to comment on the report.
Most of the companies that are expected to be sanctioned – including Serniya Engineering and Sertal – had earlier been added to a US list banning the export of sensitive technologies to them, according to the WSJ.
Although the companies are included in the “black list”, the measure does not imply the prohibition of any business activity, it is underlined in the publication.
On Thursday, the United States and its allies stepped up pressure on Moscow to invade Ukraine. Washington has imposed new sanctions on dozens of Russian defense companies, hundreds of members of the Russian parliament and the managing director of Russia’s largest bank.
