Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, answering a question from the Italian press, recently referred to the efforts made during those hours, with the aim of holding peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. The head of the Rome government, in particular, stressed:

These days we are in constant contact with a series of leaders in both Europe and the United States. I spoke a few hours ago with President Trump and we are working to start a new round of negotiations. Everyone gives their contribution, and I think, in particular Ukraine does what is necessary. I find it very valuable that the Vatican, and in particular Pontiff, have shown that they are willing to host the conversations. I talked to Pope Leo last Tuesday. This phase is reference to it, as in other possibilities. Especially in terms of the first phase of the negotiations, there are various possibilities at the technical level. The substantial disposition of the parties involved, as well as the possibility of realistic application, should be ascertained.

But I believe that in addition to the dates and hosts, there must be serious talks in which all participants have the will to take part and take progress. This is our main goal for a ceasefire and achieving a comprehensive peace agreement which, as I always recall, may not include security guarantees for the country that has been attacked, namely Ukraine. During these hours we are working with many European leaders and the United States to get the fastest possible talks that start from a technical level and slowly reach the political level, for which I find it very valuable to host the Vatican to host meetings.
