Hamas has not officially rejected Witkov’s proposal, but has expressed a series of reservations, seeking modifications
Israel has approved the proposal of US envoy Steve Whitkov for a ceasefire, according to the White House, while Hamas has not yet given a positive response.
According to the same source, consultations continue.
Israeli media reports that Hamas is expected to accept Steve Whitkov’s latest proposal, although he has submitted a series of reservations.
According to the Times of Israel, Hamas appears frustrated by the proposal and believes Whitkov made critical changes after having talks in Washington with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer.
The organization calls for a condition to be added that requires the withdrawal of Israeli forces to the positions at the end of the previous ceasefire in March, and a provision predicting that humanitarian aid will be distributed in accordance with international standards.
Most critical, according to the same sources, is that Hamas calls for a modification of the arrangement of the permanent ceasefire talks, which is projected to take place during the initial 60 -day truce, to ensure that Israel will not be able to restart the war.
The same source says the negotiations are expected to be extended for a few more days, as Israel and the US will then have to officially respond to Hamas’ reservations.
