According to figures from 13 federal states (except Lower Saxony, Saxony – ‘Anchalt and Schlesvig – Holstein), published in Welt Am Sonntag, in Germany, 249.901 people were naturalized in Germany, and in 2023 in Federal level German passport received 200.095.

With the legislation of 2024 on citizenship, the number of applications has increased significantly, as naturalization is generally allowed after five years of residence in Germany and in special occasions even after three years, the newspaper told the German General Manager of the German Cities Association in 2016 and 2015. In addition, he notes, the fact that the abandonment of first nationality is no longer required to make naturalization in Germany even more attractive.

According to data published, immigrants from Syria and Turkey are immigrants at the top of the applicants.

The “naturalizations – turbo”, whose abolition the new government decided a few days ago to stop, presuppose, among other things, good knowledge of the German language and independent living, and in practice proves that they do not correspond to today’s reality. Indicatively, in Berlin in 2024, 382 such cases were recorded in Rhine – Palatinato 20, Baden -Virtemberg 16 and Hamburg three.

At last Wednesday’s cabinet, the government coalition (CDU/CSU-SPD) decided to suspend the measure, but also to significantly reduce the program of family reunification.
